Process of Student Visa for Australia from Nepal

Australia is the most popular education destination for Nepalese students planning to study abroad. Initially, students may have many questions regarding the student visa application process and requirements.

This guide will help Nepalese students understand the step-by-step process of applying for a student visa to Australia, from career counselling to travelling.


Steps Involved in the Australian Student Visa Process (Subclass 500)

1️⃣ Career Counselling

Many students feel overwhelmed when exploring study or work options abroad. Career counselling is the first and most important step. A qualified VEVS Global counsellor will guide you in identifying the best course and career path based on your strengths and interests.

2️⃣ English Language Test

Prepare for and take an IELTS/PTE test. Minimum scores typically required:

UndergraduateIELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.5) / Equivalent PTE
PostgraduateIELTS 6.5 (no less than 6.0) / Equivalent PTE

Some courses (law, teaching, medicine) may require higher scores.


3️⃣ Apply for Admission

Before applying, our experts will verify your academic documents and assist in gathering all required paperwork. Commonly required documents include:

  • Passport
  • IELTS/PTE results
  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • University/college application form
  • Work experience (if applicable)
  • Genuine Student (GS)
  • Offer letter from university/college

NOC Process

For tuition fee payments, you need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Education, Keshar Mahal.

Documents Required for NOC:

  • Filled form
  • Citizenship copy (with original)
  • Latest academic certificate (with original)
  • Offer letter
  • NPR 2000 fee (per course)

Once you get the NOC, provide it along with your offer letter to the bank for COE processing.


4️⃣ Visa Application Preparation & Lodgement

Once you receive your COE, we help you with your student visa application. The key requirement is the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement, also known as the Statement of Purpose (SOP).

What is GS?

GS is an integrity assessment to prove you are coming to Australia temporarily for study. Factors considered:

  • Previous studies and gaps
  • Current employment
  • Ties to Nepal (family, property, etc.)
  • Economic and employment prospects in Nepal
  • Your situation in Australia
  • Value of your course to your career
  • Immigration history

Provide a GS statement and supporting documents.

After Application Lodgement

Once you submit your visa application, you’ll receive:

  • Acknowledgment Letter (with TRN)
  • Biometrics Appointment Letter (for VFS Global)

🕒 Processing time varies depending on your course, application completeness, and case complexity.

Check your visa status on the Department of Home Affairs.
